The Latest Advances in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
Dr. Kristi Funk is the board-certified surgical breast specialist and the co-founder of the Pink Lotus Breast Center. She is an expert in minimally-invasive diagnostic and treatment methods for all types of breast disease. She has helped thousands of women through breast cancer treatment, including well-known celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Sheryl Crow, who have turned to her for her expertise.
Former Director of Patient Education at Cedars-Sinai Breast Center, Dr. Funk opened the Pink Lotus Breast Center in March 2009, in the middle of a recession and just three months before giving birth to triplet sons. The Pink Lotus Breast Center fuses state-of-the art screening, diagnosis and treatment with preventive strategies and holistic, compassionate care.
Dr. Funk graduated with distinction from Stanford University in 1991, and received her medical degree from UC Davis School of Medicine. She is also a former Oxford University scholar, and worked as a research assistant at UCLA and Baxter Diagnostics. An outstanding investigator, Dr. Funk patented a surgical device used to increase operating room efficiency, assisted in the development of a method for the rapid detection of cytomegalovirus, and helped design an in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility test.
Dr. Funk’s published works have appeared in Advanced Therapy of Breast Disease, Surgical Clerkship Manual, Archives of Surgery, the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and The Journal of Clinical Microbiology. As a frequent presenter, she has addressed crowds at national and international Breast Cancer conferences, multiple Los Angeles-area hospitals, the Society of Nuclear Medicine, Southwestern Surgical Congress, Pacific Northwest Vascular Society, British Esophageal Group, Seattle Surgical Society, Virginia Mason Medical Center and the American Society for Microbiology, as well as numerous community audiences.
As we approach Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s welcome Dr. Funk and learn more about the plan to reduce your cancer risk. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.
